TOUR DE CORSE - DAY 3

The first experience of Sergio López-Fombona and Guifré Pujol (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VIII) of the Rally of France - Tour de Corse, the sixth round of the PWRC, will not be among the best of memories for both Spaniards, as they went off the road during the last stage which forced them into retirement. Because of this the Asturian driver didn't finish the rally where he had a lot of hopes, but with all the problems he had, especially the series of punctures suffered yesterday he had already lost too much time to have any chance of a good result within the PWRC category.

Sergio López-Fombona faced the third leg with the only target of finishing and looking forward to setting some good times on the French tarmac. The first passage through "Penitencier-Pietra Rossa" (24.24 kms) had fulfilled his hopes with a fifth overall time. The good showing of the RACC driver continued in the next stage where he scored the fourth best time, keeping his focus with a very consistent drive. Unfortunately on the last section the problems appeared again and Sergio was finally forced to withdraw during the last stage when he went off the road.

"You wouldn't believe it! We arrived at Corsica with high hopes but everything went wrong very early on with the gearbox problems of the first day. The problems went on yesterday with the punctures but at least I think we did set some good times today on the first stages."
