The
RACC invited the Asturian press to the official presentation of
the RACC-REPSOL program for the upcoming World Rally Championship.
At the meeting were several TV channels, radio stations and newspapers,
showing the interest sparked by the presence of Sergio in the
World Rally Championship with the RACC-Repsol team.
The
presentation was chaired by Alberto Ruideibás, the RACC
Sporting Communication Chairman, who, after a brief introductory
speech, introduced the RACC Delegate for Asturias and Galicia,
José García Peñuela, who explained the RACC
activities in different areas of the car world from its double
commitment as both a sporting and automobile club.
Alberto
Ruideibás then spoke again focusing on the sporting aspects,
explaining in detail the motor sport related initiative overseen
by the RACC during last year.
The
last RACC representative to talk was the Director of Sporting
Operations Ramón Corominas, who explained what the team
is asking of Sergio. Basically, the target is to finish all the
rallies in order that he can get as much experience as possible
as well as learn all the special stages.
Obviously
the star of the event was Sergio himself who explained his season's
goals, focusing on learning as much as possible whilst respecting
how difficult the World Rally events are. Sergio said that in
Sweden he thought it almost impossible to get a good result but
that he is confident on keeping up an ever improving line that
will allow him to reach higher targets by the end of the season
at the tarmac rallies where the experience gathered on sealed
surfaces during the last six years on the Spanish Rally championship
could be very useful.
There
then followed a question and answer session with Sergio responding
to several questions regarding his rally program.
Finally
Sergio said thank-you to the RACC, Repsol and Mitsubishi for their
help and announced the last minute agreement with the Gijon Council
Tourism Society, represented at the event by its new director
Joaquin Miranda
Now
we only have to wait for a few days until the heavily anticipated
first run for Sergio at the Swedish Rally, an event that, given
its special conditions is perhaps the hardest of the year. It
should be emphasised once again that the target is just to finish
in order to face the forthcoming rallies with optimism now that
the most difficult race has been left behind.
